Former Globo reporter Tino Marcos asks for job in video: “I need work”

Former Globo reporter Tino Marcos drew attention on social media after appearing to ask for a job in a video that seemed serious at first, but was later revealed to be a joke made in partnership with the comedy channel Porta dos Fundos. In the original Instagram post, Marcos spoke about his professional situation and said that more than five years had passed since he left Globo, adding that he now needed to work again. He referenced his long career covering Brazilian football, including eight FIFA World Cups and more than 30 years following the Brazil national team.
In the video, Marcos said he had thought carefully before recording the message and described leaving Globo as a positive moment, saying he had enjoyed time with his family after his departure. He then explained that he had spoken to friends and tried to find opportunities, but nothing concrete had come up. Marcos suggested that, with the World Cup approaching, it might be the right time for someone to hire a reporter with his experience covering eight tournaments. He ended by asking viewers whether they had any suggestions or job opportunities.
A few hours later, Porta dos Fundos posted its own video revealing the prank and announcing Tino Marcos as a new addition to the channel’s World Cup coverage. In the production, he acts as though he is genuinely searching for work and even stages phone calls to well-known commentators Galvão Bueno and Cleber Machado, reinforcing the comedic tone of the campaign.
The new program, titled “Aquele campeonato,” is scheduled to premiere on June 10 and will air every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at noon on Porta dos Fundos’ YouTube channel. The project marks a return to the football spotlight for Marcos, who spent years as one of Globo’s most recognizable sports reporters before leaving the broadcaster five years ago.
Since departing Globo, Tino Marcos has not worked as a reporter for any other media outlet on a regular basis, although he has taken on occasional projects. One of those was participation in the coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in partnership with the Brazilian Olympic Committee. More recently, he also served as one of the presenters at a Brazilian Football Confederation event in which coach Carlo Ancelotti announced the final Brazil squad for the World Cup.
