Copa do Mundo: veja os resultados dos jogos de ontem

The second day of the World Cup brought the long-awaited debuts of the United States and Canada, the co-hosts of this edition alongside Mexico. Friday, June 12, featured the tournament’s first draw and its first one-sided victory, setting an early tone for the competition.

Canada opened the day at Toronto Stadium against Bosnia and Herzegovina and had to come from behind to secure a point. Bosnia took the lead in the first half through Jovo Lukic, putting pressure on the hosts. Canada responded late, with Cyle Larin scoring the equalizer in the closing stages of the match. The Group B opener finished 1-1, leaving both teams with a share of the points and an early foothold in the tournament.

Later at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, the United States delivered a convincing performance against Paraguay. The Americans controlled the match from start to finish and produced a 4-1 win that underlined their strength as hosts. Paraguay were undone early by an own goal from Bobadilla, which gave the U.S. momentum. Folarin Balogun added two goals, while Giovanni Reyna capped the display with a standout strike. Paraguay managed a late reply through Maurício, the Brazilian-born midfielder, but the result was never in doubt.

The day’s results highlighted the contrast between two very different opening performances from the North American co-hosts. Canada showed resilience after falling behind, but had to settle for a draw after failing to turn pressure into a winner. The United States, by contrast, imposed their rhythm early and maintained control throughout, producing the most emphatic scoreline of the tournament so far.

Friday’s matches also reflected the expanding global reach and schedule of the competition, with additional fixtures set across multiple time zones. Qatar faced Switzerland in Group B, Brazil met Morocco in Group C, Haiti played Scotland in Group C, and Australia took on Turkey in Group D in the early hours of Sunday, June 14.

For the hosts, the opening day was a statement of intent. Canada left with a point and the sense that more may be possible if their attack sharpens in key moments. The United States, meanwhile, sent a strong message to the rest of the field with a dominant attacking display and a comfortable three-goal margin of victory.
