Canadian Macko to Start for Blue Jays on Friday Against Orioles, McAdoo to Make Debut

The Toronto Blue Jays will turn to a Canadian pitcher in Friday’s matchup against the Baltimore Orioles as they continue to manage injury-related rotation uncertainty. Left-hander Adam Macko has been named the starter for Game 2 of the four-game series at Rogers Centre, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET. The move comes after Dylan Cease, who was originally slated to take the ball, was placed on the injured list with a left hamstring strain, leaving Toronto without a firm plan for the spot.

Macko, 25, will be making the first start of his major league career after earning a promotion to the Blue Jays earlier this month. He has made six relief appearances since his MLB debut on May 17 and has not allowed a run across 4.1 innings, striking out four batters in the process. His most recent outing came Tuesday in Toronto’s 8-1 victory over the Miami Marlins, a game in which he continued to show early signs of poise at the big-league level.

Before his call-up, Macko spent the early part of the 2026 season with Triple-A Buffalo, where he appeared in 13 games. In that stretch, he posted a 4.50 ERA and a 1.167 WHIP. Originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 2019 draft, Macko joined the Blue Jays in 2022 as part of the trade that sent outfielder Teoscar Hernández to Seattle. The left-hander also represented Canada at this year’s World Baseball Classic, where he pitched 2.1 scoreless innings over three games and struck out four.

Toronto will also welcome another debutant on Friday. Infielder Charles McAdoo is set to make his major league debut and start at second base. The 24-year-old has spent the start of the 2026 season with Buffalo, where he has produced a .250 batting average, a .357 on-base percentage and a .432 slugging percentage over 207 plate appearances. He has collected 44 hits, 27 RBIs and eight home runs during that span.

McAdoo came to Toronto from the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2024, the organization that drafted him in the 13th round in 2023. He was acquired in a trade that sent Isiah Kiner-Falefa and cash considerations to Pittsburgh.

The Blue Jays enter Friday’s game at 28-29 and are riding a three-game winning streak. They will try to keep their momentum going against an Orioles club from the AL East as they continue the series in Toronto.
