BMW plunges off a cliff in Minas Gerais, killing five people

Firefighters responded to a serious vehicle accident on a steep and hard-to-reach embankment, where a car was found roughly 100 meters below the road. Because of the difficult terrain, rescue crews had to set up a rappel system to safely reach the crash site and begin recovery efforts.
According to the fire department, two victims were first found outside the vehicle during the descent. Both were already dead when rescuers reached them, indicating that they had been ejected from the car in the impact. The scene suggested a violent crash with multiple casualties scattered across the slope.
One person survived the accident. Firefighters reached the vehicle and found an occupant alive inside the car. That victim received pre-hospital care at the scene, was immobilized for transport, and was carefully removed from the ravine before being handed over to an advanced support unit from SAMU, Brazil’s emergency medical service.
Additional victims were later found near the wreckage. After the initial rescue work, firefighters located two more people in the vicinity of the car. Both were also confirmed dead, bringing the total number of fatalities identified during the first phase of the response to four.
Search operations resumed at daybreak after authorities received a new alert that a sixth person might still be in the vehicle area. When crews returned to the site, they carried out another inspection of the steep terrain and located one more fatal victim. That person was found about 30 meters beyond the car, in an even steeper section of the slope.
The accident required a complex rescue operation because of the location of the vehicle and the risk posed to emergency personnel. Firefighters worked carefully in difficult conditions to reach each victim, confirm the situation at the scene, and move the survivor to medical care.
The incident left at least five people dead and one survivor, according to the rescue update. Authorities continued to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including how the vehicle left the road and whether all occupants had been accounted for in the final search.
The response highlighted the challenges faced by emergency teams in remote or hazardous terrain, where access can be limited and recovery efforts must be carried out with specialized equipment.
