Homer, but Make It Hot: The Adult Odyssey That Beat Nolan to It

A surprising race around Homer’s The Odyssey is unfolding this summer as Christopher Nolan prepares a major big-screen adaptation while adult studio Cosplayground has already released its own six-part version of the epic. Nolan’s film is backed by a reported $250 million budget and an all-star cast including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, and Robert Pattinson, making it one of the most anticipated movies of 2026.
Cosplayground’s production, however, reached the finish line first. Structured as six “Rhapsodies,” the series was edited by Gogodor and written and co-produced by Yannick Dotes with Austin Fiascone, under the direction of Raphaël Massicotte. The project follows Odysseus from the fall of Troy all the way to Ithaca, covering the full journey home and presenting a complete narrative arc across its six episodes. Charles Dera plays Odysseus throughout, serving as the central figure tying the entire production together.
What makes the release especially notable is how directly it echoes Nolan’s casting announcements. As Nolan’s lineup took shape in late 2024 and early 2025, Cosplayground built its own cast with clear parallels to the prestige film. Lupita Nyong’o is set to portray Helen of Troy in Nolan’s version, while Cosplayground cast Ana Foxxx in a similar role. Zendaya’s Athena counterpart in the adult series is Isa Bella, who appears across multiple episodes as Odysseus’ divine protector. Charlize Theron’s Calypso role is mirrored by Anna Claire Clouds, while other major mythological figures include Tiffani Time as Circe, Octavia Red as the Siren, and Lana Smalls as Penelope.
The series also takes creative liberties with the source material, including an invented final encounter between Odysseus and Helen before his departure for Ithaca. That choice adds a modern dramatic twist to mythology that Homer never explicitly resolves. The production leans into stylized visuals and practical filmmaking, with Zoe Evans handling production design and filming taking place in real Las Vegas caves and desert locations, especially for the Cyclops episode.
The timing highlights just how enduring The Odyssey remains in popular culture. For more than 3,000 years, Homer’s epic has been retold in countless forms across film, television, and other media, with themes of survival, temptation, loyalty, and homecoming continuing to resonate. Cosplayground’s version appears designed to tap into that same cultural energy, blending familiar myth with contemporary casting and polished production values.
With Nolan’s highly publicized adaptation still ahead, audiences now have two very different versions of the same ancient story arriving in the same period: one a high-budget prestige epic, the other an already released adult-series adaptation that completed the journey first.
