1 Dead, 1 Hospitalized After Reported Shooting in Dauphin County

One person died and another was hospitalized after a shooting Thursday afternoon in Jefferson Township, Dauphin County, according to county dispatch and Pennsylvania State Police. The incident was reported around 2:15 p.m. in the 90 block of Carsonville Road, and the coroner remained at the scene as of about 5 p.m., officials said.

State police said they were handling the investigation and emphasized there is no threat to the public. Trooper Megan Frazer said additional details would be released later Thursday night.

The shooting shocked residents in the rural area, which is described as relatively quiet aside from the Carsonville Hotel. Local EMS worker Landon Klinger said he responded to the scene and described it as especially difficult. He said it was the first time he had dealt with a call that severe.

Neighbors and longtime residents said violent crime is uncommon in the community. Holly, who said she had been friends with the victims for 10 years, said she was devastated when she learned about the shooting. She said she first heard the news while at home and immediately reached out to others to confirm what had happened.

“In the seven years I’ve lived here I’ve never heard of anything like this happening in the community,” Holly said, adding that residents are in shock and disbelief.

Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims or a possible motive. The investigation remains active.
