Justine Henin: A $6.5 Million Divorce That Cost Her Dearly

Justine Henin, the four-time Roland Garros champion and former world No. 1, went through an extremely costly divorce from Pierre-Yves Hardenne in 2007, according to Belgian media reports. The reports said a Monaco court ordered her to pay 6.5 million euros to her former husband and to give him a tourism plane and their apartment in Monaco. Hardenne later responded to the rumors in the Belgian press by saying he had “nothing to say” about the matter and wanted no further discussion. He described the subject as something he would not comment on and said it left him completely indifferent.

Henin and Hardenne met in the late 1990s and married in 2002, united by their shared passion for tennis. Hardenne, a Belgian tennis coach, played an important role during the peak of her career, traveling with her and supporting her at tournaments. Their marriage coincided with some of the brightest years of Henin’s professional life, a period often described as the golden age of her career. In 2003, she reached the top of the women’s world rankings and established herself as one of the sport’s leading figures.

After retiring from tennis, Henin became a familiar face in France through her media work. The former Grand Slam champion is now a regular tennis consultant on French television, appearing throughout the year on Eurosport and during the French Open in May. Her post-playing career has kept her in the spotlight, especially among tennis audiences in France, where she remains a respected and recognizable voice in the sport.
