Kostyuk vs. Swiatek Set for Roland Garros Fourth Round Clash

Marta Kostyuk and Iga Swiatek will meet in a highly anticipated Roland Garros fourth-round match after both won in straight sets on Friday. The matchup pairs one of the tour’s hottest clay-court players with one of the most dominant performers in French Open history.
Kostyuk, the No. 15 seed, stayed unbeaten on clay in 2026 and extended her winning streak to 15 matches with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Viktorija Golubic. Her run this spring has included titles in Rouen and Madrid, along with a win in Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers, making her one of the most improved players of the clay season. Against Golubic, Kostyuk played aggressively from start to finish, producing 35 winners, attacking the net repeatedly and winning a long, tense opening set that helped set the tone for the match.
Swiatek, seeded No. 3, also advanced in straight sets, defeating fellow Pole Magda Linette 6-4, 6-4. The four-time Roland Garros champion continues to build on her remarkable record in Paris, where she has now reached the fourth round in eight consecutive appearances and owns a 43-3 career mark at the tournament. Her consistency at the French Open remains unmatched among active players, and she has won more matches in Paris than nearly anyone in the Open Era, trailing only legends Chris Evert and Stefanie Graf in titles won.
Despite Swiatek’s historical dominance, Kostyuk arrives with momentum and confidence. The Ukrainian said she feels different mentally entering this rematch, noting that she no longer believes the match is decided before it begins. Even so, she acknowledged the scale of Swiatek’s achievement at Roland Garros and said she would be satisfied simply with competing well and taking a set from the champion for the first time.
Their head-to-head record strongly favors Swiatek, who has won all three of their previous meetings without dropping a set. That includes a straight-sets victory in the 2021 Roland Garros fourth round, which marked Kostyuk’s first Grand Slam second-week appearance, and a 6-2, 6-2 win in Cincinnati in 2024. The two have not played since then.
Kostyuk said her clay-court breakthrough has come from rediscovering the creative, free-flowing style she used as a child. Rather than overcomplicating her game, she believes she has returned to a more instinctive approach that allows her to enjoy constructing points, mixing up rhythm and moving opponents around the court. That mentality has fueled her strong results and helped her play with more freedom.
Swiatek’s recent improvement has been more about clarity and decision-making. After a disappointing loss to Linette in Miami, she changed coaches, hired Francisco Roig and spent time training at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca. Since then, she has spoken about regaining confidence in her tactical choices and playing with more patience rather than trying to end points too quickly. That renewed clarity has helped her look more solid in key moments as she enters the second week in Paris once again.
The upcoming match brings together form, confidence and history in one of the most compelling clashes of the tournament. Kostyuk will try to use her current momentum to challenge Swiatek’s Roland Garros dominance, while Swiatek aims to continue her unbeaten streak against the Ukrainian and extend her run in Paris.
