Tom Holland Wants to Set Up “The Next Chapter” for the Next Spider-Man Film
Tom Holland said he would welcome helping introduce the next generation of Spider-Man, whether Marvel chooses Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman or another character. In an interview with Empire, Holland said he would love to play a role in setting up the franchise’s next chapter and compared that possible transition to Robert Downey Jr.’s influence on his own Marvel journey. Downey’s Tony Stark first brought Holland’s Peter Parker into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, and Holland said he would feel content if he could provide a similar launchpad for a future Spider-Man actor or heroine.
Holland’s comments come as the actor remains one of Marvel’s biggest stars. His first solo Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, earned $880 million worldwide in 2017, while its sequels Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed $1.1 billion and $1.9 billion globally, respectively. The franchise has become one of the studio’s most reliable box office engines, and the next installment, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is scheduled to reach theaters on July 31.
In a separate profile with GQ, Holland said Brand New Day required a small amount of additional filming, which he described as the “icing on the cake.” He said the movie already works well, but the added material is meant to enhance the final result rather than fix any issues. According to Holland, the new scenes are designed to add more humor and expand a villain storyline in a fresh way, along with other fun elements.
The actor’s remarks suggest he is thinking not only about his own future in the role, but also about how Spider-Man could evolve after him. Holland has played Peter Parker since his MCU debut and has become closely identified with the character across multiple films. His comments reflect a willingness to help shape a potential handoff whenever Marvel decides to move toward a new Spider-Man lead, while still continuing to build the current version of the character with Brand New Day.
