“One Night Only”: What to Know About the Event
“One Night Only” is a romantic comedy from screenwriter Travis Braun, whose script first drew major attention on The Black List, the annual industry survey of the most-liked unproduced screenplays. In 2024, Braun made history when “One Night Only” became the most-mentioned title on the list, following his 2023 victory with “Bad Boy,” making him the first writer to top The Black List in consecutive years.
The project is now moving toward release and is no longer eligible for The Black List after production officially got underway last summer. The film was later reworked by Will Gluck, the filmmaker behind “Easy A” and “Anyone But You,” though it has not been publicly confirmed how much of the original script remains in the final version.
The story centers on two strangers who race to find someone to sleep with during the only night of the year when premarital sex is legal, according to the synopsis listed on the 2024 Black List. Callum Turner, who stars in the film, has said little about the plot, but he described it in a 2025 interview as “really, really, really funny.”
Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner lead the cast, joined by Maya Hawke, Julia Fox, King Princess, Ziwe, Este Haim, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The ensemble suggests a mix of rising stars and established names, adding to the film’s appeal as a high-profile comedy with broad cultural interest.
The movie is reportedly set to premiere in theaters on August 7, although an official release date has not yet been announced. At this time, no trailer has been released.
With its unusual premise, strong cast, and Black List pedigree, “One Night Only” has already generated attention before its debut. The film’s path from celebrated screenplay to completed feature reflects the growing momentum behind projects that begin as buzzy industry favorites and later move into production with major talent attached.
