Scary Movie: Everything You Need to Know

The Scary Movie franchise, which dominated comedy-horror in the 2000s, is returning with a new reboot simply titled Scary Movie. The upcoming film marks the first entry in the series since Scary Movie 5 in 2013 and brings back the original creative force behind the franchise: the Wayans family. Marlon, Shawn, Damon Wayans Jr., Gregg Wayans, and Kim Wayans are all involved, making this the first Scary Movie film to feature the Wayans family since Scary Movie 2 in 2001. The return is being positioned as a major comeback for the series, especially for fans who have long associated the franchise with the Wayans’ style of parody and outrageous humor.

The film’s plot centers on the Core Four once again finding themselves targeted by a masked killer in a story that takes aim at nearly every corner of modern horror and franchise filmmaking. According to the official synopsis, no horror IP is safe as the movie pokes fun at reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, and even the overuse of the word “legacy.” The film promises to keep nothing sacred while revisiting the familiar mix of genre jokes, slapstick, and chaotic parody that made the series popular in the first place. Marlon Wayans has said the project is intended to bring back laughter and revive the kind of broad comedy that he feels has been missing, describing it as a multi-generational film meant to connect with audiences from older viewers to Gen Alpha.

The cast includes returning stars Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall, along with Damon Wayans Jr., Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, and a wide mix of supporting talent. Other cast members include Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Heidi Gardner, Lochlyn Munro, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, Jon Abrahams, Anthony Anderson, Felissa Rose, Benny Zielke, and Cameron Scott Roberts. The return of Anna Faris and Regina Hall is especially notable, as both actresses were central to the earlier films and helped define the franchise’s most recognizable comedic dynamic.

Faris has spoken positively about reuniting with the cast, describing the experience as a personal victory and saying it felt good simply to have everyone back together. She noted that the audience reaction is an added bonus, but the chance to return to the franchise itself was meaningful regardless of how the movie is ultimately received. Her comments reflect the nostalgic appeal surrounding the reboot and the strong interest from longtime fans who have waited years for the original ensemble to reunite.

Scary Movie is scheduled to premiere in theaters on June 12. The new release aims to revive the franchise with a fresh but familiar take on horror parody, combining returning stars, new faces, and the Wayans family’s signature comedic style.
