mAadhaar App to Be Discontinued Soon; Users Can Access Aadhaar Services Through the New App from Home

UIDAI has announced that the older mAadhaar app will soon be discontinued and users should switch to the new Aadhaar app, which is available on both Google Play Store and the App Store for Android and iPhone users. The update was shared officially by the Unique Identification Authority of India on its X account on May 25, 2026, where it said the new app is designed to provide faster access, smarter features, and a more convenient Aadhaar experience.
The new Aadhaar app brings several upgraded features compared with the older version, which had only limited functionality. According to UIDAI, the new app includes improved security systems and a simpler user experience. One of its key advantages is that users can share only selected Aadhaar details instead of revealing the full card information, giving them more control over their personal data.
The app is also designed to make Aadhaar-related services easier to handle from home. Users will be able to update details such as their mobile number and address through the app without needing to visit a center in person. Supporting documents can also be submitted directly from the mobile device, making the process more convenient and reducing paperwork.
Another important feature is the ability to store Aadhaar cards of family members within the app. This can help users keep multiple Aadhaar records in one secure place for easier access when needed. UIDAI has also emphasized privacy controls in the new app, including the option to turn biometric authentication on or off with a single toggle. This gives users more flexibility over how their Aadhaar data is accessed and protected.
For mobile number changes, the app will guide users through an OTP-based authentication process. Once verified, the update can be completed directly through the app. Address changes have also been made easier, allowing users to modify their address details without complicated steps.
UIDAI said the new app is meant to offer the same trust associated with Aadhaar while adding a more modern and smart digital experience. The organization encouraged users to move from the old app to the new one to take advantage of the upgraded features and stronger security.
With Aadhaar playing a central role in identity verification and access to services across India, the new app is expected to make Aadhaar management more accessible, secure, and user-friendly for millions of people.
