Joe Jonas Recalls ‘Crash and Burn’ Audition for Star-Studded TV Show

Joe Jonas opened up on the “Hey Jonas!” podcast about a difficult audition for an unnamed role on “The Morning Show,” saying he arrived early, was placed in a private room, and could clearly hear other actors auditioning nearby. He described the setting as “the saddest room” and said the others were “crushing it,” while he felt he completely “crash[ed] and burn[ed]” during his own read.
Jonas, 36, said the part was for a “young anchor” who would have been a possible love interest for Jennifer Aniston’s character in the Apple TV+ drama. During the conversation with brothers Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas, Nick tried to guess which roles Joe had missed out on, including “Spider-Man” and “Wicked,” prompting Joe to joke that there was no need to list every job he had not gotten. Kevin added that those were indeed two of them.
Joe also admitted that his audition for “Wicked” was especially unusual because he could hear “incredible theater vocalists” auditioning clearly from his room. Nick responded by reassuring him that bad auditions happen and asking whether the “The Morning Show” attempt was his worst. Joe said the “Wicked” experience stood out as “a bit of a strange one.”
The candid confession quickly drew reactions from fans after a clip from the podcast circulated on Instagram. Some suggested he should appear in a romantic comedy, while others said they were surprised he did not land a part in “Wicked” and argued that he would have fit the musical well. A number of commenters focused on the idea of hearing every failed audition, joking that listing the projects he missed was classic younger-brother behavior and comparing Nick’s remarks to an internal voice reminding someone of their failures.
Although Joe did not get the role on “The Morning Show,” the Jonas Brothers star has had several screen successes. He co-starred with his brothers in the Disney Channel’s “Camp Rock” films and in 2025’s “A Very Jonas Christmas,” and also made a cameo in “Zoolander 2” in 2016.
