Man Utd Transfers: INEOS Close to Finalizing First Carrick Signing as Two Shock Arrivals Targeted

Manchester United are reportedly moving closer to completing a summer deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson Silva, with claims that the club could be on the verge of agreeing a fee in the region of £38.8 million. The Brazil international is said to be United’s leading midfield target as they look to rebuild in that area ahead of next season. The club’s interest comes as they prepare for a campaign that includes a return to the Champions League, and strengthening the midfield is understood to be one of their top priorities.

United are expected to add at least two new midfielders this summer, with the squad needing long-term replacements and added depth in central areas. Questions remain around the future of current options, and the club is believed to be planning for changes beyond this window as well. Ederson has emerged as the most advanced target after recent reports suggested United had moved ahead of other suitors. Atletico Madrid are no longer seen as a serious contender for his signature, leaving United with a clearer run at the player.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has said the deal is advanced between United and Ederson, and that conversations with Atalanta are ongoing. However, he also noted that the club must first decide internally whether they want to push ahead and complete the move or switch focus to alternative midfield options. According to Romano, United sent a delegation to Italy to discuss Ederson as part of wider transfer talks covering arrivals, departures and other summer plans. He added that Ederson is waiting for United to give a final green light.

Alongside their pursuit of Ederson, United are also said to be monitoring several other midfield and defensive targets. The Daily Mail reports that the club are considering Southampton midfielder Shea Charles, who has been valued at around £25 million, as well as Leicester City defender Ben Nelson. Nelson, who is 22, stands 6ft 5in tall and can also operate at left back. He had previously drawn attention from Manchester City and Chelsea, and was a player highly regarded by Enzo Maresca during his time at Leicester.

The report also says United have identified Elliot Anderson and Aurelien Tchouameni as ideal alternatives or long-term targets. However, Anderson is thought to be more likely to join Manchester City, while Tchouameni is currently believed to want to stay at Real Madrid.

United’s summer business is expected to extend beyond midfield, but the middle of the pitch appears to be the main focus as the club prepares for a major rebuild. Ederson remains the clearest target for now, and reports suggest a breakthrough could come soon if United decide to finalise the move.
