Vaibhav Sooryavanshi heads into the IPL eliminator in exceptional form after a dominant season with the bat. He has scored 583 runs in 14 innings at a remarkable strike rate of 232.37, making this campaign one of the standout performances of the tournament. If Rajasthan Royals are to stay alive, Sooryavanshi’s role will be central, especially with the chance to chase down another major milestone: he is on 53 sixes and needs seven more to surpass Chris Gayle’s record for the most sixes in a single IPL season.
A competitive subplot has developed between Sooryavanshi and the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling attack. In the first meeting between the two sides this season, Sooryavanshi was dismissed for a first-ball duck by Hinge. After that match, Hinge made it clear he had targeted the batter from the start, saying his plan was to get Sooryavanshi out on the opening delivery. Sooryavanshi answered emphatically in the next meeting, blasting 103 off 37 balls against SRH. He was particularly aggressive against Hinge and Sakib, scoring 30 off nine balls against Hinge and 30 off ten against Sakib, with both innings featuring four sixes each. That personal duel could once again shape the outcome if the teams clash in the eliminator.
On the other side, SRH will rely heavily on Abhishek Sharma, who has also enjoyed a superb season. Abhishek, like Sooryavanshi, suffered a first-ball duck in the earlier Hyderabad meeting between the two teams, but he bounced back strongly in Jaipur, where he struck a quickfire 57 off 29 balls.
Despite his excellent form, Abhishek’s playoff record remains a concern for Sunrisers Hyderabad. In IPL knockout matches, he has managed only 17 runs in three innings, averaging 5.70. SRH will hope he can overcome that poor record and deliver when it matters most.
With both teams featuring two of the season’s most explosive batters, the eliminator promises a high-scoring battle.
