Father of fake doctor in São Paulo also practiced illegally, police say

A man identified as Marcos was arrested on the morning of the operation after investigators linked him and another man, who is now considered a fugitive in Chile, to the deaths of nine patients in connection with alleged errors and failures in medical care. Authorities say the case centers on their work at Hospital de Clínicas Jardim Helena, a medical facility founded in 1975 and located on Erva Andorinha Street in São Paulo, which serves major health plans including Porto Seguro and SulAmérica, according to the hospital’s own website.

Investigators say the two suspects worked at the hospital for about two years and carried out roughly 2,000 patient visits during that period. Police have not disclosed the specialty in which they worked. The arrests are part of a broader probe led by the 22nd Police District in São Miguel Paulista, with search-and-seizure warrants and temporary arrest orders carried out across São Paulo, São Bernardo do Campo, Guarulhos, Poá and Mogi das Cruzes.

Video obtained during the investigation reportedly shows Marcos wearing a black sweatshirt meeting a woman seated in a car stopped along the curb. In the footage, the two greet each other and walk to the vehicle door. Standing outside with the patient, Marcos then administers an injectable treatment. The interaction lasts less than two minutes before they part ways, the woman leaves, and Marcos returns to where he lives.

Police are examining the circumstances of the treatment and the possible connection between the suspects’ actions and the deaths under investigation. The case has raised concerns about the quality and safety of care provided to patients who were treated by the pair. Authorities have not yet released further details about the alleged failures, the identities of the deceased patients, or the results of any forensic examinations.

The investigation remains ongoing as officers continue to collect evidence and determine whether the two men committed criminal acts during their time at the hospital.
