Greensboro’s “Road to 10K” Aims to Address Housing Needs for JetZero Expansion

Greensboro is moving forward with its “Road to 10K” housing initiative as the city prepares for thousands of new jobs tied to JetZero’s arrival. According to the project dashboard, more than 3,000 new homes are completed or under construction, including nearly 2,000 apartments, a dozen duplexes, and more than 500 single-family homes and townhomes. City leaders say the effort is designed to ensure that incoming workers will have enough places to live as economic growth accelerates across Greensboro and Guilford County.
Samuel Hunter, director of Greensboro Housing and Neighborhood Development, said the city is on track to reach its goal of 10,000 new homes by 2030. He said planners are working closely with infrastructure departments to forecast where growth will happen and where future housing developments will come online. Hunter said the city wants to focus not only on building enough homes, but also on ensuring the housing is high quality.
The housing push comes as Greensboro prepares for JetZero’s groundbreaking in the city. Local officials have said the company’s presence is expected to bring significant job growth to the region, increasing the demand for housing across a range of price points and housing types. The city’s current development numbers show that the initiative is already making progress toward meeting that demand.
Hunter also said Greensboro offers down payment assistance programs to help residents become homeowners. Those efforts are part of the broader strategy to make housing more accessible while supporting long-term growth in the area. The city’s dashboard allows residents to track the progress of the Road to 10K initiative and see where new housing is being added.
The housing expansion is being positioned as a key part of Greensboro’s preparation for major economic development. Officials say they want to make sure the city is ready not just for new jobs, but also for the people who will fill them. With more than 3,000 homes already finished or underway, Greensboro says it is building toward a future that can support both population growth and continued economic expansion.
