Traveling Community Leaves Sports Field After Weeks of Legal Proceedings Following Two-Month Stay

An illegal occupation of a sports field in Fonbeauzard, north of Haute-Garonne, has ended after several weeks of administrative and legal action. The site, located near Toulouse in the commune of Fonbeauzard, had been occupied since early April by a group of traveling people, disrupting local sports activities and prompting concern from the municipality and residents.
According to local authorities, the newly elected town council took formal steps by contacting both the prefecture and the gendarmerie in response to the unauthorized installation. The municipality said it remained committed to protecting the quality of life and peace of local residents while the administrative and legal procedures were underway. For several weeks, the town and local sports users had to wait for the situation to be resolved.
In recent days, the group identified as Citoyens français Itinérants (CFI) was ordered to leave the site following intervention by the prefectural services. The municipality expressed thanks to the prefecture, the gendarmerie and the PSIG for managing the departure and restoring order at the location.
The sports ground, near the André-Gentillet area, has now returned to its original purpose as a place for sporting activity. Its release has been welcomed by nearby residents, elected officials and community leaders, who had been affected by the occupation. Local sports clubs were among those most impacted, as the presence of the encampment had raised concerns about the continuity of their season and the use of the field.
To help prevent further unauthorized access, Toulouse Métropole has recently installed concrete blocks at the entrances to the football field and along the banks of the Hers river. The measure is intended to secure the area and reduce the risk of future intrusions.
The end of the occupation marks a return to normal for the site, which is once again available for sporting use and local community activity. For the municipality, the resolution of the case represents the outcome it had been seeking since the beginning of the dispute in April. The town says the priority now is to preserve the peaceful use of the area and ensure the sports facilities remain accessible to residents and associations.
