Monsoon Enters Bihar: When Will It Reach Uttar Pradesh? Check IMD’s Latest Rain Alert and Weather Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the southwest monsoon reached parts of Bihar on June 11, 2026, marking its first arrival in eastern districts such as Purnia and Kishanganj. According to the Meteorological Centre in Patna, the monsoon is now expected to spread across the rest of the state gradually. Weather conditions are likely to remain favorable for its further advance over the next few days.
IMD has forecast good rainfall in Patna and several other districts of Bihar until June 15. This year, the monsoon arrived in Bihar on time, and the department expects it to cover the entire state within the next seven days. Officials also said the monsoon is likely to reach Jharkhand within two to three days.
In Uttar Pradesh, the monsoon has not yet arrived, but it is moving forward quickly. Weather experts estimate that eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Prayagraj, may see the monsoon between June 18 and June 22. Central Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow and Kanpur, could receive monsoon rains between June 22 and June 25. Western Uttar Pradesh and the Delhi-NCR region, including Noida, Ghaziabad and Meerut, may see its arrival around June 25 to June 30.
Meanwhile, weather in parts of Uttar Pradesh and the Delhi-NCR region turned cooler due to strong winds and light rain linked to a western disturbance. Wind speeds of 60 to 70 kmph were reported in some areas, bringing slight relief from humid heat. IMD’s latest monsoon progress update suggests that the overall 2026 monsoon season may be slightly weaker than normal, at around 90% of the long-period average, though early-season activity remains strong.
Jharkhand is also expected to receive the monsoon soon. IMD said on Thursday that parts of the state will likely see monsoon onset in the next two to three days. Pre-monsoon rain and strong winds were already reported in Ranchi and other north-eastern and central parts of the state. Jharkhand’s normal monsoon onset date is June 10, but since 2010 it has mostly arrived between June 12 and June 25. The department added that maximum temperatures may fall by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next three days.
IMD has issued an orange alert for 18 districts of Jharkhand for 24 hours from Friday morning, warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms. The same alert will remain in effect in 14 districts on June 13.
As the monsoon continues to advance, rainfall activity is expected to continue in several parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. IMD said conditions remain favorable for further monsoon movement into more areas of Bihar and into Uttar Pradesh in the coming days.
