NEET 2026 Retest Advisory: Dharmendra Pradhan Urges States to Prepare as Heatwave Warning Issued Ahead of NEET UG Re-Exam

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has asked chief ministers, lieutenant governors, and administrators of all states and Union Territories to extend full support for the NEET UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21, 2026. In a communication issued through the Ministry of Education, the minister urged authorities to ensure smooth, transparent, and orderly conduct of the test, particularly as many parts of the country continue to face severe heatwave conditions.

Pradhan requested district administrations and the institutions hosting the examination to make all necessary arrangements at centres so that candidates do not face hardship. He said the comfort, safety, and well-being of students must remain the top priority during the exam. The letter called for basic facilities such as safe drinking water, adequate seating, functioning fans and coolers, clean washrooms, shaded waiting areas, uninterrupted electricity supply, and portable toilets where needed.

The minister also emphasised the need for transportation support for aspirants travelling to examination centres. He appealed to state governments and local authorities to ensure proper transport arrangements so that students can reach venues without inconvenience or delay, especially amid extreme weather conditions.

The re-examination is being held after the earlier NEET UG exam conducted on May 3, 2026, was cancelled by the National Testing Agency on May 12 following allegations of a paper leak. The cancellation triggered widespread concern among students, parents, and education stakeholders across the country. The issue is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation, which is looking into the alleged leak and related irregularities in the examination process.

NEET UG is among the country’s largest entrance examinations and is the gateway for admission to undergraduate medical courses in India. With the fresh exam now approaching, authorities are focusing on security, logistics, and candidate support to ensure the re-test is conducted fairly and without disruption nationwide.
