Ghostbusters: Night Shift Title and Logo Revealed by Netflix and Sony Animation

Sony Pictures marked Ghostbusters Day in New York City on Saturday with an event at FDNY Hook & Ladder 8, the firehouse that has long served as the franchise’s real-world filming location and the Ghostbusters’ headquarters in the original film. The celebration honored the June 8 release of the 1984 movie and brought together Ghost Corps executives Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, along with showrunners Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan.

At the event, Sony and Netflix revealed the official title and logo for their upcoming animated Ghostbusters series, Ghostbusters: Night Shift, which is scheduled to debut in 2027. The announcement added a new chapter to the long-running franchise, which has expanded from the original film into sequels, spin-offs and a growing animated slate.

The gathering also highlighted the franchise’s charitable work through the yearlong Ghostbusters Give Back campaign, which exceeded its $500,000 fundraising target. To recognize the most successful local chapters, “Golden Trap” awards were presented to Buffalo Ghostbusters, which raised $67,000; Los Angeles Ghostbusters, which raised $65,000; and Ghostbusters Virginia, which raised $30,000. The fundraiser underscored the fan community’s role in supporting local causes while keeping the Ghostbusters spirit active beyond entertainment.

Sony Pictures also presented a $150,000 matching donation check to the Starlight Children’s Foundation. The check was delivered by Jay Levine, Sony Pictures’ executive vice president, chief strategy officer and business operations lead, alongside Reitman and Kenan, to Starlight CEO Adam Garone. The donation was made on behalf of Sony Pictures, Starlight Children’s Foundation and Ghostbusters Give Back. In addition, proceeds from the event benefited the FDNY Foundation.

Levine praised the franchise’s cultural staying power and the generosity of its fans, saying the Ghostbusters community has consistently supported charitable efforts, volunteered time, raised money and helped bring joy to communities. His remarks reflected the broader theme of the event: a franchise that continues to connect entertainment, fan engagement and philanthropy.

The original Ghostbusters film, directed by Ivan Reitman, starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson as parapsychologists who start a ghost-catching business in New York City. The movie became a major box-office success, earning nearly $300 million worldwide, and went on to launch multiple follow-up films, including Ghostbusters II in 1989, Ghostbusters: Answer the Call in 2016, Ghostbusters: Afterlife in 2021 and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire in 2024.

The New York event reinforced the franchise’s enduring place in pop culture while setting up its next animated chapter. With Ghostbusters: Night Shift now officially titled, Sony and Netflix are positioning the series as the latest expansion of one of Hollywood’s most recognizable supernatural brands.
