Caitlin Clark’s Fever Blow Double-Digit Lead in Another Stunning Collapse Against Liberty

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever suffered another painful late-game collapse on Saturday night, falling 83-75 to the New York Liberty after surrendering a double-digit second-half lead. Indiana had been ahead by as many as 12 points, but New York took control down the stretch by forcing turnovers and taking advantage of the Fever’s mistakes.
The loss was another example of a troubling pattern for Indiana, which has now dropped multiple games this season after building significant leads. The Fever previously endured similar collapses against the Washington Mystics and Golden State Valkyries, adding to growing frustration around a team that entered the season with championship expectations.
Clark had one of the toughest shooting performances of her career, finishing 4-for-14 from the field and committing three turnovers. She came close to matching her worst shooting night, which came last season against the Golden State Valkyries when she went 3-for-14. While Clark struggled to find a rhythm, she was not alone in Indiana’s offensive issues.
Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell also had difficult outings, combining for eight turnovers and shooting just 36.1% from the field. Indiana’s ball security problems proved costly against a Liberty team that stayed composed and capitalized on nearly every mistake in the second half.
The Liberty earned the win without Sabrina Ionescu, who was sidelined because of a lingering injury. Even without one of their top stars, New York found enough production and defensive pressure to complete the comeback and hand Indiana another disappointing defeat.
The Fever’s uneven start has intensified pressure on head coach Stephanie White, as the team’s first 10 games have fallen short of preseason expectations. Instead of looking like a contender, Indiana has struggled with consistency, execution and closing out games.
The setback leaves the Fever in danger of falling further in the Eastern Conference standings. Their next chance to respond comes on the road against the Washington Mystics, where Indiana will try to stop the slide and avoid dropping to fifth place in the conference.
For Clark and the Fever, Saturday’s loss was not just another defeat. It was another reminder that a talented roster still has major issues to solve, especially when holding leads late in games.
