Beartooth Frontman Caleb Shomo Comes Out as Gay, Announces End of 14-Year Marriage

Caleb Shomo, frontman of the rock band Beartooth and former vocalist of Attack Attack!, publicly said on Saturday that he is gay and that he and his wife, Fleur Shomo, are ending their 14-year marriage. In an Instagram post reported by Page Six, the 33-year-old musician said he felt he needed to address growing speculation about his private life in order to protect the people closest to him. He described the disclosure as the result of a long personal struggle with identity that he had kept hidden for years.
Shomo said he spent much of his adult life suppressing his sexuality and turning to alcohol for about a decade to avoid confronting his feelings. According to his account, getting sober forced him to face questions he had postponed for years and began a process of reconciling with who he is. He said he now wants to reach a place of self-love and expressed regret that he had not acknowledged his identity sooner.
The musician also said the experience will influence his work going forward. He told fans that Beartooth’s upcoming album will reflect his life without dilution, and that he intends to be fully honest in his lyrics and creative expression. He encouraged anyone struggling with identity or self-acceptance to be patient with themselves and avoid suppressing difficult feelings.
Fleur Shomo, 41, responded separately on social media and said the past several months had been disorienting and painful for both of them. The podcast co-host of “My Top 5” said she had witnessed her husband’s pain and confusion while trying to support him as their marriage came to an end. Even so, she said she would always want to protect him and stand by his well-being, emphasizing that she has cared about his health above all else throughout their relationship.
The couple, who do not have children, married in April 2012. Fleur Shomo reflected on their years together as filled with love and adventure, while also acknowledging that their romantic relationship has ended. She asked for compassion and hoped that others in similar situations could find courage. She also urged fans to continue supporting Caleb Shomo as he moves into this new chapter both personally and professionally.
