Zee Issues Advisory on FIFA World Cup 2026 Streaming and Branding Use

Zee Entertainment Enterprises, through its streaming platform ZEE5, has issued a compliance advisory to hotels, restaurants, and other commercial venues in India ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, warning them against the unauthorised use of FIFA branding, trademarks, and content. The advisory says terms such as “FIFA,” “World Cup 2026,” official logos, and related marks are protected intellectual property owned by FIFA, and that any reproduction, commercial display, or promotional use of these assets without permission is prohibited.
The notice states that only officially licensed partners are allowed to use FIFA trademarks. Businesses have been cautioned that even indirect use of FIFA branding in advertising, venue communications, or on-premise marketing materials could result in legal consequences. It also reiterates that ZEE5 holds exclusive streaming rights for the tournament in India, meaning public screenings of World Cup matches at hotels and commercial establishments must be carried out only through authorised platforms.
According to the advisory, any violation of these rules could lead to penalties, suspension of services, or additional legal action under intellectual property and broadcasting laws. The warning comes as anticipation builds for the tournament, which is expected to draw strong interest from football fans across India and boost public screenings in hospitality and commercial venues.
The reminder is aimed at ensuring that businesses remain compliant as they prepare for increased demand during the global event. It highlights the importance of respecting both streaming rights and trademark protections, especially in high-traffic commercial settings where football-related promotions are likely to increase.
With football fever set to rise during FIFA World Cup 2026, the advisory makes clear that only authorised use of FIFA content will be permitted in India. Venues using the tournament name, official marks, or match broadcasts without proper licensing could face enforcement action.
