Montpellier: 12-Year-Old Girl Alerts Emergency Services After Disturbing Text From Her Mother

Last week in Montpellier, a 12-year-old girl alerted municipal police after receiving a text message from her mother mentioning suicidal thoughts. The child was deeply upset and, given the seriousness of the message, officers immediately began emergency procedures to verify the woman’s condition and locate her as quickly as possible.
Municipal police from the public domain and mobility enforcement unit quickly coordinated with their radio command center and unit supervisor to organize a welfare check at the mother’s home. Firefighters and the national police were also notified and joined the response. Using keys provided by the teenager, officers entered the apartment with body cameras activated to assess the situation. No sign of the mother was found inside.
As the search continued, the girl managed to call her mother. The woman said she was near Saint-Roch station. That information was immediately passed to all teams involved in the operation. Thanks to phone geolocation and an alert broadcast over police radio, two municipal police patrols already in the area were able to respond rapidly. The mother was eventually found safe on a platform at the station.
Once located, she was taken care of by firefighters and transported to Lapeyronie University Hospital for medical attention. The girl, meanwhile, was escorted to the police station before being placed in the care of a trusted neighbor.
The intervention involved several agencies and ended without casualties, thanks to the quick response of the officers and the coordination between the emergency services involved.
