Woman bitten by cobra while putting on shoes; 24-year-old undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College

A 24-year-old woman from Eranjippalam in Kozhikode was bitten by a cobra while putting on her shoe. The incident happened when the snake, which was inside the footwear, suddenly bit her. The woman, identified as Anagha, sustained the bite while she was getting ready to wear the shoe.
Following the incident, she was taken to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for treatment. Hospital sources said her condition is satisfactory. The prompt medical response helped ensure she received immediate care after the snakebite.
The snake was later captured and handed over to the Forest Department. Officials are expected to handle the reptile according to safety procedures. The incident has once again highlighted the risk of snake encounters in residential areas, especially during the rainy season when reptiles often enter homes or hide in unexpected places.
Residents in the area were alerted after the snakebite, and the case drew attention because it occurred in a common daily routine, making the situation more alarming. Cobras are venomous snakes, and bites from them require urgent medical attention. In this case, the woman was quickly rushed to the hospital, reducing the chance of serious complications.
Snakebite incidents are not uncommon in parts of Kerala, particularly in areas where human habitation is close to vegetation or open land. People are often advised to check shoes, clothing, beds, and storage areas before use, especially in places where snakes may seek shelter.
Authorities and local residents are likely to remain cautious after the incident, as snake activity can increase in warm and wet conditions. The successful capture of the snake also prevented further danger to others nearby.
The woman continues to be under medical observation, but her condition remains stable, according to reports. The quick action by those present at the scene and the medical team helped bring the situation under control.
