Vivian Wilson Walks Out of Interview After Being Asked About Estranged Father Elon Musk

Vivian Wilson, the estranged daughter of Elon Musk, abruptly ended a red carpet interview after being asked about her father during a Desigual Vintage event in Ibiza, Spain, on Tuesday. When a reporter referred to Musk as “your father” and asked if he was “the best,” Wilson paused, responded briefly, and walked away, according to social media video shared from the event.

The incident renewed attention on the longstanding and highly public rift between Wilson and Musk. Wilson, 22, came out as transgender in 2020 and legally changed her gender in 2022. She has repeatedly said she does not want a relationship with Musk and has distanced herself from his name and public identity.

In court filings in 2022, Wilson said she “no longer wishes to be related” to Musk. Since then, both have spoken publicly about the breakdown in their relationship. Musk has described Wilson in interviews as politically opposed to him and has claimed he was misled into signing documents connected to her gender transition. In a 2024 conversation with Jordan Peterson, Musk said he had “lost” his son, using Wilson’s former name and making remarks that drew widespread criticism.

Wilson has responded by saying Musk was largely absent during her childhood and did not understand her experience growing up. She has said she was harassed for her femininity and queerness, and described him as uncaring and narcissistic. In a social media post, she emphasized that she had disowned him rather than the other way around.

In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan published in April, Wilson said growing up as the child of one of the world’s richest men felt “isolating” and “strange.” She recalled being aware from a young age of poverty and homelessness, and said those experiences affected her deeply. She has also spoken about the emotional distance she felt within her family and the pressure of living in the public eye because of Musk’s fame.

Wilson is one of Musk’s oldest children. She and her twin brother, Griffin, were born in California in 2004 during Musk’s marriage to author Justine Wilson. Musk has 14 children with multiple partners, including Justine Wilson, musician Grimes, Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis and influencer Ashley St. Clair.

The Ibiza interview is the latest public moment to highlight the unresolved family conflict between Wilson and Musk, a dispute that has played out across court filings, interviews and social media.
