Taylor Swift Announces New Single for Toy Story 5 Soundtrack

Taylor Swift has announced a new original song for Toy Story 5, ending days of online speculation about her involvement in the Disney and Pixar film. The track, titled “I Knew It, I Knew You,” will be released on June 5, with CD singles available for preorder on Swift’s website. Fans will be able to choose from three variants of the single, each featuring a different version of the song: the original, a piano version, and an acoustic version.
Rumors began last week when billboards appeared in several cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Toronto, Mexico City, and London, displaying the initials “TS” in the recognizable yellow Toy Story font. The teasing campaign led fans to speculate that Swift was connected to the animated sequel. On June 1, Swift confirmed the news on Instagram after a Toy Story-themed countdown on her website ended, writing, “It’s a Toy Story,” and revealing that the song would be part of Toy Story 5.
In her post, Swift said she had long hoped to write for the beloved characters she grew up watching as a child. She added that she fell in love with Toy Story 5 after seeing an early version of the film and wrote the song soon after returning home from the screening. The singer described the project as something that felt immediate and natural.
Swift co-wrote the song with longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, according to a press release. The new single is said to mark a return to the country sound and was inspired by Jessie, the cowgirl character from the Toy Story franchise. Director Andrew Stanton praised Swift’s contribution, saying her connection to Jessie and her understanding of the character’s emotional arc made the song feel deeply integrated with the film. He said the track felt so fitting that it seemed as if it had always belonged in the Toy Story world.
“I Knew It, I Knew You” will be Swift’s first new music since the release of her album The Life of a Showgirl in October 2025. In April, she also released a video for “Elizabeth Taylor,” which used archive footage of the late actor.
Toy Story 5 is scheduled for worldwide release on June 19. A trailer for the film shows Buzz Lightyear and Woody facing a new challenge in the form of a tablet called Lilypad, setting up a battle for children’s attention and the future of playtime.
