Suspected Murder Investigation Underway in Apartment Building in Märsta
Police responded on Sunday to a call about a disturbance at an apartment building in Märsta, north of Stockholm, where they found a seriously injured man in his 50s inside a flat. Emergency responders and police attempted life-saving measures, but the man later died from his injuries. His relatives have been informed.
A man in his 30s who was present in the building was arrested on suspicion of murder. Police said they believe the case is an isolated incident. The crime scene has been sealed off while investigators carry out technical examinations, interviews, and other investigative steps.
The incident took place after police were alerted to noise and disorder in the building. According to nearby residents, there had previously been disturbances in the apartment and in the basement area. One neighbor told Aftonbladet that people had been seen in the basement and that it appeared someone may have been living there. The neighbor also said there had been break-ins in the basement.
Residents in the area said they were not concerned about immediate danger. “We are not worried. We are taking it easy,” one group of men said while sitting nearby.
The case has shocked the local neighborhood, which has reportedly experienced unrest in the building before. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and the events leading up to the arrest.
