Queen Letizia and Princess Charlene of Monaco set the summer style standard in Madrid
)
As Madrid prepares for the expected visit of Pope Leo XIV, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia began the week with another major diplomatic engagement in the Spanish capital, receiving Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco. The royal couple welcomed the Monegasque pair to a day of official events that highlighted the long relationship between Spain and Monaco and added another high-profile moment to Madrid’s busy royal calendar.
The visit began with a luncheon hosted by King Felipe at the Zarzuela Palace for Prince Albert, the son of Grace Kelly. The two couples later reunited in the afternoon for a cultural tour at Madrid’s Royal Botanical Garden, where they visited commemorative exhibitions marking the 150th anniversary of the opening of the first diplomatic mission between Spain and Monaco. The occasion combined diplomacy, history, and royal symbolism, underscoring the close ties between the two monarchies.
Queen Letizia chose a refined summer look for the occasion, selecting a white midi dress in Japanese linen by Italian brand Mantù. The dress, first worn by the Queen last August at the closing ceremony of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest, featured a tailored silhouette with a corset-style waist and carefully placed seams designed to flatter the figure. Its lightweight fabric and structured construction made it a practical choice for Madrid’s high temperatures while maintaining a polished appearance.
Letizia elevated the minimalist dress with bold gold accessories. She paired it with a matching gold envelope clutch and kitten-heel sandals, continuing her recent preference for elegant but more comfortable footwear. The Queen has largely moved away from very high heels due to Morton’s neuroma, a painful foot condition, and her choice again reflected a balance of style and comfort. Her jewelry stood out in particular: she brought back a sculptural cuff bracelet and matching earrings from Spanish brand Suma Cruz, created in 24-karat gold-plated brass and inspired by botanical forms.
Princess Charlene made a notable impression in what is described as her first official visit to Spain. She wore a sky-blue lace midi dress by Oscar de la Renta, a designer she often turns to for major occasions. The sleeveless dress featured a rounded neckline, fitted bodice, and A-line skirt, with a matching lace belt that emphasized her waist. The soft blue tone complemented her complexion and brought out her eyes, while the overall look conveyed a more classic and elegant style than some of her earlier fashion choices.
Charlene completed the ensemble with classic slingback pumps in a matching shade, pearl earrings, and a diamond ring. She wore no handbag and chose a sleek low chignon with a side part and softly waved bangs. Together, the two royal women showcased coordinated summer elegance, while Felipe and Albert’s appearance reaffirmed the ceremonial and diplomatic importance of the Monaco-Spain relationship.
