Simone Biles Reveals She Faced a Recent Health Scare: “Almost Dying Wasn’t on My Bingo Card”

Simone Biles said she experienced a medical emergency earlier this week that she described as one of the scariest moments of her life. In a story posted to her Instagram account on Saturday afternoon, the 29-year-old Olympic gymnast said she “almost died” because of the incident, though she did not disclose the specific medical issue.
Biles said she normally keeps private matters to herself, but felt moved to share this experience with her followers. She noted that the emergency happened while her husband, Indianapolis Colts safety Jonathan Owens, was away with his team for practices. Along with her message, Biles posted a series of photos that appeared to show her recovering at home.
The first image showed her right arm extended with three medical-style bracelets attached. In the accompanying text, she said she had been in bed resting during the week and said she would explain more at a later time. She also thanked the people in her close circle who reached out, checked on her, visited her, or sent flowers.
The next two photos in the Instagram story showed several floral bouquets, suggesting support from family and friends during her recovery. The final image showed a bed with two dogs and a screenshot of a heart-rate monitor, with the caption “I’ll be here.”
Biles is the most decorated gymnast in Olympic history. Across her career, she has won 11 Olympic medals, including seven golds, and 30 World Championship medals. Her latest post drew attention because of the seriousness of the language she used and the fact that she has not yet shared details about what happened.
The message appeared to show that the gymnast is now resting and recovering, while also indicating that she plans to speak more openly about the episode at some point in the future. For now, her post left fans concerned but relieved that she was able to share an update after what she described as a frightening medical scare.
