Police appeal after e-bike stolen in Morecambe

Police in Morecambe are appealing for information after an electric bike was stolen from a property on Westgate.

Officers released an image of the bike on Morecambe Area Police social media on Friday in an effort to trace the stolen item and identify those responsible. The theft was reported after the bike was taken from a secure garage, prompting police to remind residents to review their home security measures.

A Morecambe Area Police spokesperson said the incident highlighted the importance of making garages as secure as possible. Residents were urged to ensure garage doors are properly locked and to consider additional security steps, including the use of CCTV where possible.

Police said anyone who may know where the bike is or has information about who stole it should come forward. They asked members of the public with relevant details to contact them by email at 5999@lancashire.police.uk.

The appeal forms part of the force’s ongoing efforts to recover stolen property and prevent similar crimes. Police often rely on public assistance in theft investigations, particularly when stolen goods may have been moved quickly or offered for sale soon after the incident.

Although the bike was taken from a secure garage, officers said the theft serves as a reminder that even locked storage areas can be targeted by thieves. They encouraged local residents to take steps to strengthen security at homes, sheds and garages to reduce the risk of opportunistic theft.

The image shared by police is intended to help people recognise the bicycle if it is seen in the local area or online. Anyone who spots the bike or has seen suspicious activity connected to the theft is asked to share information with Lancashire Police.

Westgate is one of the areas where residents may be particularly cautious about bike theft and other property crimes, and police said community vigilance can make a difference in recovering stolen items. Officers did not provide further details about the exact time of the theft or the bike’s make and model, but said any information, no matter how small, could assist the investigation.

Police continue to encourage the public to report suspicious behaviour and to keep valuables secured out of sight. The investigation remains open while officers look for leads that could help them identify the thief and return the electric bike to its owner.
