Savannah Guthrie Shares Emotional Message as Search for Mom Nancy Reaches Four-Month Mark

Savannah Guthrie shared a deeply emotional message on social media as the search for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, continues. Over the weekend, the “Today” show co-host posted an Instagram Story featuring a religious painting of Jesus Christ’s ascension, with the words, “Oh my, my soul, it cries out, soul, it cries out,” written across the image. Guthrie added her own plea underneath: “bring her home,” followed by a yellow heart emoji.
The color yellow has taken on special meaning for the Guthrie family since Nancy was reported missing from her Arizona home on February 1. After the 81-year-old vanished in the middle of the night, neighbors and supporters showed their solidarity with yellow flowers and ribbons, turning the shade into a symbol of hope and remembrance.
Nancy was last seen on January 31, and Savannah has been open about the emotional toll the disappearance has taken on her family. During the months that followed, she stepped away from NBC’s morning show to be with her siblings, Annie Guthrie and Camron Guthrie, as the search continued. When she returned to “Today” in April, she marked the moment with a yellow dress, saying it felt good to be back. Her co-anchor Craig Melvin sat beside her wearing a suit with a yellow tie, reinforcing the family’s quiet message of support and hope.
Savannah has continued to honor her mother publicly, often using yellow in her clothing and social media posts. In May, she wore the same bright color during the first broadcast after Mother’s Day and shared another emotional message online, writing that the family would never stop looking for Nancy and would never be at peace until she is found.
As the case has moved further into the summer, the search has become more difficult. Reports noted that officials have scaled back active efforts, and investigators are now approaching the case as a recovery and criminal investigation rather than a rescue mission. A retired FBI agent explained that at this stage authorities are focused on determining what happened and gathering evidence.
Savannah has also acknowledged the painful possibility that her mother may not still be alive. In a video message addressed to Nancy’s kidnapper in February, she said the family needed to know where Nancy was, even if the outcome was not what they hoped for. Her words reflected both grief and determination as the family continued pressing for answers.
The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy’s return, underscoring the urgency of the search and the depth of their hope.
