Suryakumar Yadav to Lead India in T20 Clash Against Uganda in Mumbai

Suryakumar Yadav may return to competitive cricket on May 30, when he is expected to represent Triumph Knights Mumbai North East against Uganda in a T20 match at the MCA Ground in the Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. The game is being seen as the biggest highlight of Uganda’s ongoing tour of Mumbai, which includes four ODIs and four T20s. The T20 fixtures are scheduled to be played against different franchise teams from the T20 Mumbai League, and the tour is also considered part of preparations for the league, which begins on June 1.

According to MCA secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar, Suryakumar is part of the squad, making his participation likely. He said the India T20 captain brings major value to any contest because of his international experience and stature. The Mumbai Cricket Association also announced a five-year Memorandum of Understanding with Cricket Uganda during the same development.

Suryakumar is closely associated with the T20 Mumbai League, where he was regarded as one of the biggest discoveries in the inaugural 2018 season. Triumph Knights have retained him as their icon player for the fourth season, underlining the strong long-term connection between the franchise and the batter.

MCA president Ajinkya Naik said ICC chairman Jay Shah played an important role in finalising the partnership and the Uganda tour. Naik noted that the idea to host the Uganda team came under Jay Shah’s leadership and was welcomed as a matter of pride for Mumbai cricket. He added that the arrangement will give Mumbai players the chance to face an international side and gain valuable match experience.

The MCA said its development vision goes beyond senior players and is also focused on giving international exposure to the bench strength. As part of that broader plan, both Mumbai’s men’s and women’s teams are set to tour the United Kingdom later this year.

For Suryakumar, the match could also serve as an important confidence-building opportunity after a difficult IPL 2026 season in which he did not perform to expectations. His presence before the start of the T20 Mumbai League is likely to boost the tournament’s visibility and attract strong interest from fans. If he takes the field on May 30, it will mark a notable comeback moment for one of India’s most followed T20 stars and add extra attention to Uganda’s historic Mumbai tour.
