Jay-Z Finally Settles His Score With Kanye West Amid Maniac Drama

Jay-Z has broken his silence more than a year after Kanye West made offensive comments about the rapper’s children with Beyoncé. Returning to the stage at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia, Jay-Z delivered his first solo headlining performance since 2019 and used the moment to fire back at West and others he believes have disrespected him.
During a four-minute freestyle that opened the show, Jay-Z appeared to directly address West’s remarks. In lines shared widely on social media, he referenced his children in a defiant tone and suggested he would respond forcefully to anyone trying to provoke him. He also seemed to allude to West’s mental health struggles, saying that people often call others insane while failing to recognize their own behavior.
The tension traces back to March 2025, when West posted a controversial and now-deleted message on X involving Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s younger twins, Rumi and Sir. West later defended the post in interviews, saying he used social media to share unfiltered thoughts. Although he eventually apologized to Jay-Z more than a month later, the relationship between the two men remained strained.
Jay-Z and Beyoncé had already hinted at their response earlier this year during Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour stop in Paris. Jay-Z joined her on stage for “Crazy in Love” before performing “Niggas in Paris” as a solo number and changing the lyrics to replace West’s name with Beyoncé’s. Fans interpreted the revised performance as a clear message that the Carters had not forgiven West.
The feud between Jay-Z and West dates back to their years as collaborators and mentors in the 2000s. West worked with Jay-Z through Roc-A-Fella Records, and the two developed a close relationship that later evolved into a friendship. Their bond began to fracture in the years that followed, including after Jay-Z and Beyoncé missed West’s 2014 wedding to Kim Kardashian. West later said he was hurt by their absence, though he also suggested political and personal tensions contributed to the divide.
At Roots Picnic, Jay-Z’s performance did not stop with West. Fans also believed he took aim at Drake and Nicki Minaj. One line appeared to reference Drake’s recent diss track, while another seemed to address Minaj’s long-running conflict with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label and mention her husband Kenneth Petty’s criminal history. Jay-Z also declared that Roc Nation was not falling apart, reinforcing his message that he remains firmly in control.
The performance marked a rare and pointed public response from one of hip-hop’s most influential figures. Rather than issuing a formal statement, Jay-Z chose the stage to address old grudges, recent insults, and ongoing industry tensions all at once.
