Marshals Finale Cliffhanger Fates Revealed as Season 2 Filming Begins

The season one finale of Marshals ended with a violent cliffhanger that put several characters in danger and set up major conflict for season two. In “Wolves at the Door,” members of Kayce Dutton’s elite marshals unit, Cal and Belle, are ambushed by gunmen connected to the Weaver family, revealing rancher Tom Weaver as the force behind the attacks on Broken Rock chairman Rainwater. The episode also leaves Kayce, played by Luke Grimes, and his son Tate in immediate danger heading into the already renewed second season.
Logan Marshall-Green and Arielle Kebbel, who play Cal and Belle, confirmed that both characters survive the finale attack and will appear in season two, though Marshall-Green stressed that survival does not mean they are safe. The actors said the new season picks up immediately after the ambush, with the fallout from the Weaver betrayal driving the story forward. They also suggested that the consequences of the attack will be severe and that viewers may be surprised by how far the conflict escalates.
Marshall-Green said he knew early on that Cal was in Montana for a reason beyond his marshal duties, including a connection to his estranged daughter and a hidden cancer diagnosis tied to burn-pit exposure. He said the role is designed to explore redemption, trauma, and the lasting effects of military service. Kebbel said Belle has remained in precarious situations throughout the series and that the finale made her focus more on Cal’s safety than her own. She added that season two begins with the immediate aftermath of the shooting and continues to build on the show’s themes of land, power, money, and violence.
The interview also highlighted the production’s rapid move into season two while season one was still airing. Both actors described the workload as intense, praising the cast, crew, and military consultants who helped shape the show’s authentic SEAL and law-enforcement details. Marshall-Green said he embraced the role quickly and has not watched all of Yellowstone, choosing instead to focus on Marshals as its own story. Kebbel said she came into the project familiar with Taylor Sheridan’s world and appreciated how the series depicts the realities of ranch life and territorial conflict.
As Marshals moves into season two, the Weaver family’s betrayal, Cal’s illness, and the growing tensions around Kayce’s ranch are expected to expand the drama. The series continues to build on the Yellowstone universe while setting up a larger story about loyalty, survival, and the cost of protecting land and family.
