Man of Tomorrow Set Photos Confirm Key Detail About David Corenswet’s Superman — and I’m Relieved

Filming is underway on James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow, the next Superman film in the new DC Universe, and early set photos have sparked fresh discussion among fans. The images, which have begun circulating online, appear to show David Corenswet returning as Kal-El in the same Superman suit he wore in the first film, suggesting that the hero’s look will remain consistent across the franchise’s early chapters.

The DC Universe’s first major slate, titled Gods and Monsters, is still in its early stages, and Man of Tomorrow will be only the fourth movie in the growing shared continuity. Because the first Superman film introduced Corenswet’s version of the character, viewers have been paying close attention to every update from the sequel’s production. The latest set photos show Corenswet in costume while performing wire work, and although the footage is low quality, the suit appears to match the one seen in Superman.

That choice stands out because superhero sequels often give the main character a new costume, both to reflect story changes and to create new merchandising opportunities. In this case, however, Gunn appears to be keeping Superman’s design familiar for the sequel. The decision means Corenswet will seem to be wearing the same outfit for a third on-screen appearance, counting his role in Supergirl as well.

James Gunn first shared a set photo from Man of Tomorrow in April, confirming that production was already moving ahead. Since then, more details have emerged about the film, including a preview of Lex Luthor’s Power Suit. The newest development centers on Superman himself, and the uniformity of the costume suggests Gunn is aiming for visual continuity as this version of the character becomes established in the DCU.

Story details remain limited, but Gunn has already hinted at a major team-up between Superman and Lex Luthor. According to his comments, the two former enemies will be forced to work together against a shared threat. That enemy is expected to be Brainiac, one of Superman’s most iconic villains and a force powerful enough to push the hero and Luthor into an uneasy alliance.

If Brainiac does serve as the main antagonist, Man of Tomorrow could mark a significant expansion of the new DCU’s scope, moving beyond introduction and into larger, more interconnected conflicts. Fans will have to wait for official confirmation and more plot details, but anticipation is already building as production continues.

Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 9, 2027. Until then, the next DC film on the calendar is Supergirl, which is set for release on June 26.
