Madhya Pradesh Continues to Set Wheat Production Records, Output Reaches 10.4 Million Metric Tonnes

Madhya Pradesh has set a new record in wheat procurement this season, with the state purchasing more than 104.22 lakh metric tonnes of wheat, surpassing its revised target of 100 lakh metric tonnes. The original target had been 78 lakh metric tonnes, but procurement exceeded expectations under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. With this achievement, Madhya Pradesh has moved to second place in the country for wheat procurement, behind Punjab.
The large-scale procurement has benefited more than 13.41 lakh farmers across the state. A significant share of the purchases came from small and marginal farmers, reflecting the government’s focus on wider participation and support for rural households. Around 8 lakh small farmers sold more than 32 lakh metric tonnes of wheat to the procurement centers. Officials said the process was closely monitored to ensure that farmers did not face unnecessary delays or difficulties at the centers.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also visited several procurement centers personally to review arrangements and interact with farmers. The state government said the emphasis this year was on making the procurement process smoother, faster and more accessible, especially for farmers who travel long distances to sell their produce. Extra attention was given to the functioning of the centers so that wheat collection could continue without major disruptions.
The government has also made substantial payments to farmers. So far, more than Rs 23,708 crore has been transferred into farmers’ bank accounts. Farmers received the wheat procurement payment at Rs 2,585 per quintal as the minimum support price, along with an additional state bonus of Rs 40 per quintal. This brought the total effective payment to Rs 2,625 per quintal, giving farmers direct financial relief and improving their earnings from the crop.
Procurement was strong across several divisions of Madhya Pradesh. Bhopal division led the state with more than 28 lakh metric tonnes procured. Ujjain division followed with over 22 lakh metric tonnes, while Jabalpur recorded more than 12 lakh metric tonnes. Other divisions, including Indore, Rewa, Sagar and Narmadapuram, also reported substantial procurement volumes. The government has said that storage and transportation systems were arranged in advance to handle the large quantity of grain safely and efficiently.
Transportation of the procured wheat has also progressed well, with 93 percent of the grain already moved from procurement centers. Authorities said the state ensured proper logistics for storage, loading and transport to prevent congestion and protect the crop after purchase.
To improve farmer convenience, the state expanded the number of weighing scales at procurement centers to reduce waiting times. Payment slips and weighing operations were extended until late evening in many places. Centers were also equipped with drinking water, seating arrangements and cleanliness facilities. In addition, necessary materials such as gunny bags, stitching machines, computers and grain quality-testing equipment were made available.
The state government says it will continue efforts to strengthen farmer support and improve the procurement system further in the coming seasons.
