Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld Star in Life, Larry & the Pursuit of Unhappiness Trailer

HBO has released the official trailer for Larry David and Barack Obama’s Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness, giving viewers a first look at the comedy limited series ahead of its June 26 premiere. The trailer highlights a lineup of celebrity guest stars, including Jon Hamm, Sean Hayes, Jerry Seinfeld, Jane Krakowski, Isla Fisher, Toby Huss and Joe Manganiello. One early sequence shows Hamm, Hayes and David stuck awaiting repairs before takeoff in a vintage plane, setting the tone for the series’ absurdist historical sketches.
The most notable moment in the trailer is a reunion between Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld, dressed as fur-hatted pioneers setting out on an adventure. Their exchange plays up the show’s loose, improvised humor, with David eagerly suggesting a fishing trip and Seinfeld responding with his own offbeat survival plan. Additional first-look images released by HBO also show David alongside Barack Obama, reinforcing the unusual pairing at the center of the project.
Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness is a seven-episode limited series that blends comedy sketches with moments from American history. Each half-hour episode will include four separate sketches. According to HBO’s logline, the series was conceived as a tribute to America’s 250th anniversary, but the plan is quickly derailed when Larry David gets involved.
The series was created by David and Jeff Schaffer, who also directs. It is produced by Higher Ground, the company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama, with executive producers including the Obamas, David, Schaffer, Vinnie Malhotra and Ethan Lewis. The project marks another high-profile collaboration between HBO and Higher Ground, while also extending David’s long-running comedic partnership with Schaffer.
The cast includes several familiar faces from David’s comedy universe, with appearances expected from Curb Your Enthusiasm alumni such as Susie Essman and Vince Vaughn, along with Bill Hader and Kathryn Hahn. Barack Obama himself is also set to appear in one of the sketches, adding an especially unexpected twist to the series.
HBO says the show will debut on Friday, June 26 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and stream on HBO Max. New episodes will be released weekly, with the season finale scheduled for August 7. The newly released trailer and photos suggest the series will mix historical parody, celebrity cameos and David’s trademark awkward energy into a playful send-up of American mythmaking.
