Knicks Sweep Cavaliers to Reach NBA Finals for First Time Since 1999

The New York Knicks are back in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999 after completing a 4-0 sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals with a dominant 130-93 win on Monday night. The victory capped a remarkable playoff run for New York, which also swept the Philadelphia 76ers in the conference semifinals and defeated the Atlanta Hawks 4-2 in the first round. The Knicks have now won 11 straight playoff games, the third-longest streak in a single postseason in NBA history, and are chasing their first NBA championship since 1973.

Cleveland’s only real chance came in Game 1, when the Cavaliers built a 22-point fourth-quarter lead before Jalen Brunson led a dramatic New York comeback that ended in overtime. From there, the Knicks controlled the series completely, winning the next three games by 16, 13 and 37 points. Their combination of defensive pressure, physical play and balanced scoring has made them one of the most imposing teams in the postseason.

Brunson has been the standout star throughout the run and was named Eastern Conference finals MVP, earning the Larry Bird Trophy. After the clinching victory, he praised his teammates, coaching staff and fans, saying the achievement was only possible because of the support around him. His leadership has been central to New York’s success, and teammates have repeatedly credited his calm presence and steady approach for helping the team maintain focus throughout the playoffs.

The Knicks now await the winner of the Western Conference finals, where the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs are tied 2-2 heading into Game 5 on Tuesday night. Either opponent would present a major challenge: Oklahoma City is the reigning champion and one of the league’s most complete teams, while San Antonio is powered by Victor Wembanyama, the 7-foot-4 phenom whose emergence has transformed the franchise. New York’s route to the Finals may have been relatively comfortable, but the championship series is expected to be far more demanding.

Monday night’s clincher also drew major attention off the court, with several celebrity Knicks supporters making the trip to Cleveland. Spike Lee, Tracy Morgan and Timothée Chalamet were among those present as New York secured its place in the Finals, underscoring the national spotlight that follows the franchise. The team’s resurgence has energized its fan base across New York City, where excitement has reached a fever pitch.

With Brunson playing at an elite level and the Knicks entering the Finals with momentum, confidence and widespread support, New York is in position to pursue a title that has eluded the franchise for more than five decades.
