Katy Perry Collaborates With Chief Keef After His Threat to ‘Smack’ Her

Katy Perry and Chief Keef have officially teamed up on a remix, ending a years-old feud with a surprise collaboration that revived two fan-favorite tracks. On Thursday, the pop star and rapper released a new version of Perry’s 2013 song “Legendary Lovers,” blending it with Keef’s “Save Me” after both songs gained renewed attention on TikTok earlier this year. Perry announced the release on TikTok with a video of the two dancing and singing along to the track, writing, “LEGENDARY LOVERS OUT NOW @ChiefKeef.” The pair also shared more clips teasing the project, including one in which Perry called the moment a “legendary link up” as they shook hands to the remix. Another post showed her joking that she was “attempting to summon Mr. Keef,” building anticipation before the collaboration dropped.
The unexpected partnership comes 13 years after Perry and Chief Keef clashed publicly on social media. In 2013, Perry criticized Keef’s song “Hate Bein’ Sober,” which featured 50 Cent and Wiz Khalifa, and the rapper responded with a series of hostile posts. Keef, whose real name is Keith Farrelle Cozart, tweeted insults and threatened to “smack” Perry, escalating the online dispute. Perry later apologized, saying she was sorry if she had offended him and that she had not realized he was specifically involved in the track. The dispute faded, but the two artists’ names remained linked in pop culture memory.
Interest in both songs surged after they went viral on TikTok, helping set the stage for the remix. Keef’s record label, 43B, fueled speculation on Wednesday by posting an Instagram Reel of the two artists talking in a parking lot, captioned with a cryptic “#Chiefkeef & #Katyperry link up finally.” That teaser led fans to expect a collaboration, which Perry confirmed the next day when the remix became available.
“Legendary Lovers” originally appeared on Perry’s 2013 album “Prism,” while Keef sampled the track for “Save Me” in 2014. The new remix brings the two songs together in a full-circle moment that transforms an old celebrity feud into a cross-genre reunion. For fans, it marks a rare example of pop and rap history being reworked into a viral comeback, with Perry and Keef turning a tense chapter from the past into a joint release that is now drawing fresh attention online.
