Simpsons Restaurant in Birmingham to Close After 32 Years

Hundreds of people have reacted with sadness after news that a much-loved Birmingham restaurant is set to close, with many sharing memories of milestone celebrations, special family occasions and outstanding meals at the venue.

Laura O’Reilly, from Bromsgrove, said she was “absolutely gutted” to learn that her favourite restaurant was shutting its doors. She described it as the “Mecca of Birmingham’s food scene” and said the venue had played a central role in her family’s celebrations over the years.

O’Reilly, a construction firm owner, praised the restaurant’s food as “second-to-none” and described the service as “impeccable”. She recalled celebrating her 30th birthday in the private dining room and said the experience felt unforgettable from start to finish. “We were so spoilt,” she said, adding that the memories would stay with her forever. She described the occasion as “perfection from the minute we arrived to the minute we left.”

Others echoed the same sense of loss, saying the restaurant had become more than just a place to eat. For many, it had been a setting for important life events, family gatherings and memorable evenings. The news prompted an outpouring of tributes from diners who said they had enjoyed years of exceptional food and service.

Mat Holden-Jones said it was “truly a sad day”, praising the restaurant for its “amazing food, wines and service”. He said that if it had been possible, he and others would have visited every week. His comments reflected the widespread affection many customers held for the venue, which had earned a strong reputation for quality and consistency.

The closure announcement has clearly struck a nerve with loyal diners, many of whom view the restaurant as one of the city’s standout dining destinations. The reaction highlights the emotional connection people can develop with restaurants that form part of their personal history, especially those associated with birthdays, anniversaries and other significant milestones.

As messages of disappointment continue to pour in, the restaurant is being remembered not only for its culinary standards but also for the experiences it created for guests. For many, the closure marks the end of an era in Birmingham’s dining scene, leaving behind a legacy of special memories, praised hospitality and a lasting impact on customers who felt they were treated with exceptional care.
