Grammy-Nominated Musician Talay Riley Dies in London Stabbing; Described as “a Gem”

Michael Orabiyi, known as record producer and songwriter Scribz Riley, has been described by family and friends as a loving, generous and influential figure after his death. His brother said on Instagram that his heart was “shattered,” and tributes quickly followed from musicians and public figures including Stormzy, former X Factor star Williams, and Sugababes singer Keisha Buchanan. They offered condolences, prayers and support to Orabiyi’s family, reflecting the shock felt across the music community.

In his tribute, Michael Orabiyi’s brother said he was a “friend to many, a mentor, an inspiration, and a light in so many people’s lives.” He added that Orabiyi “loved deeply, gave freely” and had touched “countless people” through his talent, kindness and spirit. The post also said the large amount of love already shared online showed how widely he had impacted those around him, and that his legacy would continue through his music.

Police confirmed that a second victim, a man in his 20s, is being treated for multiple stab wounds. Officers said his injuries are serious but not life-threatening or life-changing. The investigation into the stabbing is continuing, and police have appealed for witnesses and anyone with footage from the area to come forward.

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of murdering Orabiyi. One 27-year-old man has since been released on bail while police continue enquiries. A 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman have been released with no further action. Detectives are still examining the circumstances of the incident and are asking for help from anyone who was nearby at the time.

Det Ch Insp Joanna Yorke of the Metropolitan Police said the investigation is moving quickly and urged people who were in the area to speak to officers. She specifically asked for any CCTV or other video footage from the morning of the incident that could help detectives understand what happened.

The death has prompted widespread grief online, with many people paying tribute to Orabiyi’s character and influence as well as his work in music. Messages from artists and fans have focused on his kindness, generosity and the positive mark he left on those who knew him. The reaction has highlighted his role not only as a producer and songwriter, but also as someone who supported and inspired others.
