Exclusive: Trump’s “MAGA Glastonbury” Festival Faces Major Setback

Bret Michaels has withdrawn from a planned performance tied to the America250 celebration, a public-private initiative established by Donald Trump to mark the United States’ 250th anniversary. Michaels, 63, is the latest artist to leave the event after the concert lineup sparked controversy and drew criticism over its political associations.

In a statement shared on social media, the Poison frontman said the opportunity had initially been presented to him as a patriotic music celebration honoring veterans, active-duty military members, first responders, teachers and other working Americans. He said that description made the event appealing and consistent with values he has long supported.

However, Michaels said the festival had changed in tone and had become more divisive than he expected. He cited growing concern about the direction of the event and said the atmosphere surrounding it no longer matched what he had agreed to join. According to his statement, the situation escalated beyond a simple celebration of music and national pride.

Michaels also said safety concerns played a major role in his decision to step away. He said threats had been raised against his fans, band, crew, family and himself, and described those threats as unfounded and unforgivable. He said he could not ignore the risk and had to make what he called a difficult choice to withdraw from the performance.

The singer stressed that his decision was not based on party politics. He said the issue was about remaining true to his beliefs and protecting the people around him. Michaels added that he has always respected different opinions and that freedom of expression is one of the values veterans fought to defend. He said that as a father, friend and bandmate, he had to take the reported threats seriously.

His departure follows a wave of backlash around the event’s lineup, as other performers have also distanced themselves amid the controversy. The response highlights the challenge organizers face in balancing a patriotic public celebration with the political tensions linked to Trump’s role in launching the initiative.

The America250 project was created as a public-private partnership to commemorate the nation’s semiquincentennial, but the announcement of performers has quickly become a flashpoint. What was intended as a broad national celebration has instead drawn scrutiny over whether the event is being framed too closely around politics rather than unity.

Michaels’ exit adds to the uncertainty surrounding the festival and raises questions about whether additional artists may follow. It also underscores how quickly a high-profile entertainment event can become entangled in political debate, especially when tied to a former president and a symbolic national milestone.

Despite stepping away, Michaels framed his decision as a matter of principle and personal responsibility rather than ideology. He said he wanted to honor the spirit of the original invitation, but could not proceed once the event’s character changed and safety concerns emerged.
