Dylan Efron Opens Up About the Tough Eating Situation on The Traitors
Dylan Efron opened up about the food situation on The Traitors, saying the castle menu can be especially tough for contestants trying to stay on top of their fitness goals. Speaking while promoting Garden of Life’s new clear and transparent whey protein line, Efron said he wished he had access to protein shakes during filming because the options inside the castle were limited, with pastries often dominating the spread. He joked that even in Paris, where the setting looks elegant, the real challenge was finding enough protein, adding that eggs were one of the few reliable sources available.
Efron also said he felt for The Traitors winner Rob Rausch, whose egg-heavy eating became a memorable moment for viewers. He recalled watching Rausch eat eggs during the show and immediately relating to the struggle of trying to get enough protein in an environment that is not designed for gym-friendly nutrition. According to Efron, it was not unusual for the cast to be left with mostly pastries and only occasional protein-rich choices such as eggs or salmon.
Beyond the food itself, Efron described another awkward aspect of eating on the show: timing. He said that after contestants returned from challenges, food would sometimes already be on the table, creating tension over whether it was acceptable to start eating before everyone was back. From the contestants’ perspective, he explained, they were still on camera and often had only one meal available, so the situation was not as simple as ordinary dinner etiquette. Efron suggested that eating became part of the gameplay and the production rhythm, even if it occasionally sparked conflict.
The discussion came as Garden of Life prepares to launch its clear whey protein line, which Efron said could help people who want more protein without relying on traditional powders. The new lineup is set to arrive in retail this September and will include Mango Mist, Lemon Frost, and an unflavored option.
Efron also said he would like another chance to return to The Traitors if the opportunity comes up. Given the franchise’s history of bringing back former contestants, that possibility remains open. Fans of the series will not have to wait long for more, as The Traitors spinoff is scheduled to air on NBC in September, while the celebrity edition is set to return to Peacock in January 2027.
