Diddy’s Prison Life: Lawyer Shares Insight Into How He’s Spending His Time
Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, is serving a prison sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The 56-year-old former rapper and music executive is reportedly adjusting to life at the low-security federal facility while serving roughly 50 months, or just over four years, behind bars.
According to his attorney, Juda Engelmayer, Combs has been trying to stay physically and mentally healthy during his incarceration. She said he sometimes plays basketball in the prison yard and is not focused on building muscle, but instead on maintaining his health and keeping his mind clear. Engelmayer also said that prayer and meditation have become part of his daily routine, describing them as part of his faith and therapy journey.
Combs was previously held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center during his trial before being transferred to Fort Dix. The move was reportedly connected in part to the prison’s Residential Drug Abuse Program, known as RDAP, which can offer inmates an opportunity to reduce their sentences if they complete the program. Reports about Fort Dix have portrayed it as a difficult environment in some respects, with a former inmate alleging poor conditions, including expired food and broken toilets and showers. Those claims have not been publicly addressed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
While Combs settles into prison life, his legal fight continues. His lawyers are appealing his sentence, arguing that Judge Arun Subramanian went beyond the evidence presented in court when making findings about whether Combs coerced women into sexually charged situations. The defense has also argued that the “Freak-Offs” referenced in the case amounted to amateur recordings protected by the First Amendment.
Prosecutors have strongly rejected those arguments and asked the court to affirm the ruling. In February, they filed paperwork supporting the sentence, and Combs’ legal team later presented oral arguments before a three-judge appellate panel in April. A decision has not yet been announced.
Until the appeal is resolved, Combs remains at Fort Dix, where he is reportedly keeping a low profile. His case continues to draw attention not only because of his fame, but also because of the broader legal battles still surrounding him. Some observers, including 50 Cent, have suggested he could be released early, though no official timeline has been set.
For now, Combs continues serving his sentence while waiting for the outcome of his appeal and facing additional legal challenges outside prison.
