Colman Domingo Pays Moving Tribute That Rekindles Memories of Chadwick Boseman

Colman Domingo has reflected on the close but brief bond he shared with Chadwick Boseman, saying the late actor believed in him and publicly praised his talent long before Domingo’s current rise in Hollywood. In comments that have resonated strongly with fans, Domingo recalled meeting Boseman again at a Hollywood party after Boseman had become a global star through Black Panther, which earned more than $1 billion worldwide. According to Domingo, he congratulated Boseman on his success, but Boseman redirected the attention toward him and told those in the room that people needed to know Domingo’s name, calling him “the truth” and urging others to keep an eye on him.
Domingo’s remarks have stirred renewed grief among fans who continue to mourn Boseman, who died in 2020 at age 43 after a private battle with colon cancer. On social media, many said the tribute brought back emotional memories of the actor, whose work and presence left a lasting impact on audiences and fellow performers alike. Domingo said Boseman occupied a rare place in Hollywood because he understood his background, his experience, and the pressures faced by Black actors navigating the industry. He described Boseman as a “beautiful angel” in his life and said he believes the actor is still helping him and others from “the other side.”
The interview also highlighted Domingo’s own long path to wider recognition. After more than 30 years in the business, he said there was a time when he believed he might never become a leading man and would instead spend his career supporting other stars. He noted that while his work was often respected, the spotlight frequently went elsewhere. That outlook has changed in recent years, with Domingo earning back-to-back Academy Award nominations for Rustin in 2024 and Sing Sing in 2025, marking a major breakthrough in his career.
Now 56, Domingo says he is in an “incredible harvest period,” a phase in which the seeds he planted over decades of work are finally bringing major rewards. His rising profile has brought him into some of Hollywood’s most visible projects, including Euphoria, the Michael Jackson biopic Michael, the second season of Netflix’s The Four Seasons, and Steven Spielberg’s upcoming thriller Disclosure Day. While he joked that earlier success would have been better for his finances, Domingo said he would not change his journey. For him, the current moment represents the rewarding third act of a career built on patience, persistence, and belief.
