Be Part of History: How to Volunteer for the Salt Lake Temple Celebration

Next spring, the Salt Lake Temple will open for public tours for the first time since 1893, following a major renovation and ahead of a historic celebration at Temple Square. The event will offer visitors a rare opportunity to see the newly renovated temple in person or take part virtually from anywhere in the world. The celebration is being described as a once-in-a-lifetime experience designed to help guests learn about the temple, explore its significance, and participate in a broad range of activities centered on the reopening.
Volunteer applications for the celebration will begin in June 2026, giving people the chance to join the effort through Temple Square’s “Rejoice Team.” Organizers are looking for volunteers who can help create a welcoming and inspiring experience for guests. Roles will include wayfinding, accessibility support, guest services, and activity assistance. Additional opportunities will also be available for young performers, including musicians, vocalists, and cultural performers. Temple Square says it is seeking volunteers from many backgrounds and experience levels who are eager to contribute to the event.
Those interested in serving on the Rejoice Team must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers will need to complete training and commit to serving for a minimum of eight weeks. Shifts will generally be three to four hours once a week, with availability offered between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. Many assignments will be flexible, allowing volunteers to select times that fit their schedules. Some positions may require standing for long periods, though Temple Square notes that certain roles can accommodate accessibility needs. More detailed information about individual volunteer positions is expected to be posted on the Temple Square website in June.
Public reservations for Salt Lake Temple open house tours will begin on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Visitors will be able to reserve tickets through the Temple Square App, which can also be used to book tours and events. The Church is also planning a virtual experience so people who cannot attend in person will still be able to tour the Salt Lake Temple and take part in the celebration online.
The celebration will extend beyond temple tours and will include new exhibits, live performances, special activities, feature films, and other experiences across Temple Square. Visitors will also be able to reserve tickets for Music & the Spoken Word, tours of the Beehive and Lion House, and the Inside a Temple experience. Temple Square says its website will provide answers to common questions and additional details about the event and volunteer process.
The reopening of the Salt Lake Temple is expected to draw wide interest because public tours have not been held there since 1893. With in-person and virtual access, volunteer opportunities, and expanded activities throughout Temple Square, the celebration is being positioned as a major event for both local visitors and audiences worldwide.
