Jill Biden Says Joe Biden Would Have Defeated Trump in 2024 Election
Jill Biden said on June 2 during an appearance on MS NOW’s Morning Joe that polling at the time showed her husband, former President Joe Biden, as the only Democrat who could defeat Donald Trump, and that was part of the reason he chose to stay in the race after his widely criticized debate performance. Speaking with Willie Geist, Jill described the period as deeply painful for the Biden family, saying she would never want anyone she loved to go through that experience again. She said the fallout affected not only her and Joe, but also their children and grandchildren, calling it a hard time for the entire family.
Geist pressed her on whether Joe Biden now regretted dropping out of the 2024 presidential race. Jill Biden did not directly answer on her husband’s personal regret, but emphasized the emotional toll of the campaign turmoil. When asked a second time whether Joe Biden believed he would have defeated Donald Trump, she avoided speaking for him and instead said, “I believe he would have beat Donald Trump in that election.”
Her remarks revisited one of the most debated moments of the 2024 campaign, when Biden’s shaky debate against Trump intensified pressure on him to exit the race. The debate raised questions about his candidacy and led to increased scrutiny from allies, donors, and voters. Jill Biden’s comments suggested she remained convinced her husband still had a path to victory if he had continued.
The interview highlighted both the political and personal consequences of Biden’s decision to leave the race. Jill Biden framed the experience as emotionally difficult and painful for the family, while also defending the belief that Joe Biden had the strength and support to win against Trump. Her comments added to the ongoing discussion over what might have happened had Biden remained the Democratic nominee in 2024.
