Peabo Bryson, the Grammy-winning singer celebrated for performing some of Disney’s most beloved ballads, has died at the age of 75. According to People, Bryson died on Tuesday, surrounded by family. His death came just two days after reports said he had suffered a stroke on May 31 and was under medical care.

Bryson’s family confirmed the news in a statement, expressing gratitude for the support they had received from fans, friends and colleagues around the world. They said they were deeply moved by the outpouring of love, prayers and condolences, and added that although their hearts were broken, they found comfort in knowing how many lives had been touched by Bryson’s voice and spirit. Bryson was widely known for his signature renditions of Disney classics, especially the title songs from “Beauty and the Beast” and “A Whole New World.” Both performances became major hits and helped define his career for mainstream audiences. His work on those songs also brought him two Grammy Awards: one for “Beauty and the Beast,” performed with Celine Dion in 1992, and another for “A Whole New World,” performed with Regina Belle in 1993.

The singer began his music career in 1976 and went on to release 20 solo albums through 2018. Five of those albums achieved gold certification, reflecting his lasting popularity and commercial success. Over the decades, Bryson recorded a long list of songs and worked with a range of prominent artists, including Roberta Flack, Natalie Cole and Kenny G.

Known for his rich, soulful voice and romantic style, Bryson built a career that spanned decades and crossed multiple genres, from R&B and soul to adult contemporary and film music. His ability to bring emotion and warmth to a song made him a favorite among fans and collaborators alike.

Bryson is survived by his wife and two children. Representatives for the singer did not immediately comment when asked about his death. The news marks the loss of one of the most recognizable voices associated with Disney’s musical legacy and a performer whose influence extended far beyond his biggest hits.
